Academic Session
School academic session lasts from February to December. It is divided into two terms, each comprising 20 weeks. During each term short duration monthly assessment tests are conducted. At the end of each term longer duration end term tests / examinations are also conducted. College academic session lasts from June to April next year. During this period scheduled assessment tests, pre-selection / mock examinations are conducted.
Assessment Procedure
Assessment and testing is a very important part of our education. At our School a progressive assessment procedure is followed, where student's academic performance is tested on regular basis. This system helps to identify weaknesses and shortcomings on both short and long term basis. Students' progress/performance in assessments, end term tests and mocks / pre-selection tests is closely monitored. The test results are conveyed to the parents regularly and promptly. If need be, parents are called to discuss the problems faced by their wards in a particular work/subject. Generally 2 to 4 assessment tests per subject are conducted in a term. During the term some class work and assignments (where applicable) are also marked for assessment purposes. Following weight-age is given to this assessment:
Assessment tests - 80% Class Work / Assignments - 20%
Passing Criteria
To pass in a particular subject a student must secure at least 50% marks in the assessment tests and 50% marks in the end term test / examination (50% aggregate of assessment and end term). Any student failing (less than 50% on aggregate) in more than one major subject (English, Urdu, Mathematics, Science/Physics/Chemistry/Biology) and one minor subject (Social Studies /Pakistan Studies, Islamiyat) at the end of the year is not promoted to the next grade/class. If he/she fails again next year, his/her name is deleted from the School/College. The end of Term-2 test/examination is considered as the promotion test for the next grade/class. Where the students have not done well in Term-2, their Term-1 results may also be considered. Failure to qualify results in detention of student in the same class.
Assessment Procedure in College
Scheduled assessment tests, pre-selection/mock examinations are conducted to evaluate student's performance in order to register him/her for external examination conducted by the Federal Board /Cambridge University.
Student Awards
Iqra does not declare 1st, 2nd or 3rd positions of the students who perform well in studies. Students are awarded following two awards at the end of academic session. A student who secures maximum marks/percentage in one academic year in a grade/class and performs well in co-curricular activities is given the Most Outstanding Student award. A student who shows significant improvement over an academic session is given the Most Improved Student award. This award is given to a student who has been weak at the beginning of the session and has shown significant improvement subsequently. Students who absent themselves more than once in an assessment test (for whatever reason) will not be considered for the subject/ most improved and most outstanding awards.
